Let's Catch Up

I have so much to talk about! Let's start with the Sweeps Pageant.  I attended the Sweeps pageant on February 26th where the last two local title holders were crowned.  Congratulations to the new Miss City of Lakes, Allison Lordbock and Miss West Metro, Samantha Phillippe!  I'm very excited to share another week together at Miss Minnesota this June.  I can't believe how quickly it's approaching.

Bailey and I

All of us acting goofy with the newly crowned titleholders!

On March 1st I had an appearance at the Coon Rapids IHOP to promote National Pancake Day, where all IHOPs across the nation donate a free stack of pancakes to everyone who comes in.  Any donation given is donated to the Children's Miracle Network.  The staff at the Coon Rapids IHOP were so nice and my 3 hour shift went by really fast.  I spoke to everyone who came in and talked about my experience with the patients at Gillette Children's Hospital in hopes that they would give a donation toward the cause :-)  Thank you to the Coon Rapids IHOP for hosting me, I had a great time!

These are all the balloons that people could sign after they made a donation

On March 5th I did my very first Polar Bear Plunge in Brainerd with Miss Heart of the Lakes, Kalli Randall and Miss Brainerd Lakes, Mary Petersen.  If you don't know what a polar bear plunge is, it is basically a way for crazy Minnesotans to get together to raise money for Special Olympics by jumping into a lake that still has ice on it!  Yes, I will admit it....we Minnesotans are crazy!  I have never been so cold in my life, but non-the-less I had a great time with Mary and Kalli, we raised funds for the Special Olympics and it's one more thing I can cross off my bucket list :-)

Doing the Plunge...notice how everyone behind us is wearing winter coats, hats and mittens, yet we are in our swim suits jumping into a lake!

On March 17th I was invited to speak at Hudson High School where I had the opportunity to talk about my platform, my involvment with the Miss America Organization, and I also sang my Miss Minnesota talent song for them.  This was the first time I had shown anyone my talent choice, and I was excited to recieve some great feedack from them.

At Hudson High School, Can you see me? I'm in the middle :-)

Over the next couple of weeks I will be working diligently on all my Miss Minnesota paperwork along with my school work and preparing for the Dental Admission Test (DAT).  For those of you who don't know me well enough, I am applying to dental school this summer, but in order to do that I have to take the DAT first.  I am very nervous about this exam so I decided to take a Kaplan course that will help me study for it.  I am scheduled to take it on May 10th so any prayers would be greatly appreciated :-)

The Miss Minnesota workshop is rapidly approaching on April 2nd along with Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen Pageant the very same day.  I am very excited to see all the local titleholders again and to cheer on all the teen titleholders as they compete.

I have some exciting news happen in my family this week, my older sister Melanie is recently engaged! I am so excited for her and her fiance Peter.  I'm even more excited to finally be in a wedding! I have never been in a wedding before, well I was a flower girl when I was 5, but I don't count that :-)

Always,
Bethany Beniek
